Christopher M. Cashman
Executive Chairman
In September 2011 Mr. Cashman was appointed Executive Chairman and Director of Marinus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Prior to Marinus, Chris was President and CEO of Protez Pharmaceuticals a company he co-founded in 2003. Protez was acquired by Novartis in 2008.  Mr. Cashman was the recipient of the "Entrepreneur of the Year" award by the Mid Atlantic Capital Alliance in 2008 and the "Life Sciences CEO of the Year" by the Eastern Pennsylvania Technology Council. Mr. Cashman has enjoyed a career spanning three decades in the pharmaceutical industry including prior roles as President and CEO, Message Pharmaceuticals, and as Vice President for both Pfizer and SmithKline Beecham. Chris began his pharmaceutical career at SmithKline Corporation and holds an M.S. in Economics from Purdue University and B.S. Business Management from the University of Minnesota. In addition to Marinus Chris also serves on the board of directors of Rapid Micro Biosystems, Noble Biomaterials, MBF Therapeutics, Mid-Atlantic Diamond Ventures and the Science Center.


Stephen Bloch, M.D.
Chairman
Stephen Bloch joined Canaan Partners in June 2002, initially as a Ewing Marion Kauffman Fellow. His investment targets include biopharmaceuticals (therapeutics and diagnostics), medical devices and healthcare infrastructure. Dr. Bloch currently serves on the Board of Directors for Advanced Biohealing, Amicus Therapeutics, Marinus Pharmaceuticals, OmniSonics Medical Technologies and Viacor.

Prior to joining Canaan, Dr. Bloch was a medical entrepreneur and practicing physician. He founded and was CEO of Radiology Management Sciences, a risk manager of diagnostic imaging services for health plans and provider networks. As medical director, he helped start Omnisonics Medical Technologies which is developing breakthrough products using acoustic energy for the treatment of vascular occlusive diseases. Additionally, he co-founded TeleRad, a teleradiology services company, and was an initial investor in OpenAir.com, an enterprise software company for professional services firms. Dr. Bloch started his business career as a strategic consultant with Arthur D. Little focused on pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

Dr. Bloch received his medical training as a radiologist at The Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School and in internal medicine at The Lenox Hill Hospital/Cornell Medical School. He received his medical degree from the University of Rochester. He also received a M.A. in history of science and public policy from Harvard University and an A.B. degree in history from Dartmouth College.

Dr. Bloch became Chairman of the Marinus Pharmaceuticals Board in October 2007.


Harry T. Rein
Director
Harry Rein is a General Partner at Foundation Medical Partners, where he is primarily focused on investing in medical devices. Mr. Rein served for 15 years as the Founder and Managing General Partner of Canaan Partners. In addition to his role as the managing general partner at Canaan Partners, Mr. Rein was responsible for Canaan's Life Sciences Investment Practice.

Prior to Canaan Partners, for four years he was President and CEO of GE Venture Capital Corporation. Mr.Rein has extensive experience with small and mid-sized companies, including the supervision of all investments made by GE Venture Capital during his tenure as president. Mr. Rein joined the General Electric Company ("GE") in 1979 and directed several of GE's lighting businesses as general manager before joining the venture capital subsidiary. He has also worked for Transaction Systems, Inc., a strategic consulting firm, as a Vice President; with Gulf Oil Corporation as Director of Corporate Planning; and with Polaroid Corporation in several manufacturing positions. Mr. Rein has served on the boards of directors of over 20 public and private entrepreneurial companies, including: Cell Pathways, OraPharma (acquired by Johnson & Johnson), National MD (acquired by GE), OmniSonics, GenVec (NASDAQ: GNVC), CardioNet (NASDAQ: BEAT) and Spine Wave, and was an investor in Praecis Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: PRCS).

Currently, Mr. Rein serves on the Board of Directors of Anadigics (NASDAQ: ANAD), and IlluminOss Medical and Marinus Pharmaceuticals. Previously, Mr. Rein was a member of the Board of Directors of the National Venture Capital Association ("NVCA") and was the recipient of the 2002 NVCA Outstanding Service Award. Mr. Rein also serves as a Trustee of the Cleveland Clinic, and is a member of the Clinic's Research and Education, Finance, and Emerging Businesses committees. Mr. Rein is Chairman of the Industrial Advisory Board of Cleveland Clinic. He also serves as a Trustee of the University of Virginia Darden School of Business Foundation, where he is a member of the Executive Committee and Chairman of the Investment Committee.

Mr. Rein attended Emory University and Oglethorpe College (1968) and hold an M.B.A. from the Darden School at the University of Virginia (1973).


Nicole Vitullo
Director
Nicole Vitullo joined Domain in 1999 and became a Partner in 2004. She has full management responsibility for Domain Public Equity Partners, L.P. and is also involved in distribution/liquidation strategies for the public companies in Domain Associates' venture capital portfolios. Present board memberships include Calixa Therapeutics, Celator Pharmaceuticals, Marinus Pharmaceuticals, Ruxton Pharmaceuticals and VentiRx Pharmaceuticals. Past board memberships include Cerexa, Eunoe and Onyx Pharmaceuticals. From 1992-1999, Ms. Vitullo was Senior Vice President at Rothschild Asset Management, Inc. where she had responsibility for the U.S. public market investments of International Biotechnology Trust plc and Biotechnology Investments Limited. From 1991-1992, Ms. Vitullo served as the Director of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations at Cephalon, a publicly traded biotechnology company. Prior to Cephalon, Ms. Vitullo spent 12 years at Eastman Kodak, most recently in Corporate Development where she was involved in the development management of Kodak's venture capital activities.

Ms. Vitullo received her B.A. and M.B.A. from the University of Rochester.


Anand Mehra, M.D
Director
Anand Mehra, M.D., joined Sofinnova Ventures in 2007 as a Principal to focus on biopharmaceutical investing. Dr. Mehra's diverse background equips him to work with entrepreneurs on scientific, clinical, and strategic levels. Currently, he is a director of Marinus Pharmaceuticals, active in Anthera and Prestwick Pharmaceuticals, and played an instrumental role in the firm's investments in Hyperion and PregLem. Prior to joining Sofinnova Ventures, Dr. Mehra worked in JP Morgan's private equity and venture capital group, where he was heavily involved in investments made in Phenomix, Kemia, and CardioKinetix, management of their public portfolio, and the firm's spin-out from the bank. Before joining the venture community, Dr. Mehra was a consultant in McKinsey & Company's pharmaceutical practice, advising pharma and biotech companies on key strategic issues, and an NIH-funded Fellow focused on reperfusion injury in stroke.

Dr. Mehra received his M.D. from Columbia Medical School and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Virginia.


Timothy M. Mayleben
Director
Timothy Mayleben is an advisor to life science and healthcare companies through his advisory and investment firm, ElMa Advisors. Prior to this he served as the President and Chief Operating Officer and a Director of NightHawk Radiology Holdings, Inc.

Mr. Mayleben was formerly the Chief Operating Officer of Esperion Therapeutics, which later became a division of Pfizer Global Research & Development. He joined Esperion in late 1998 as Chief Financial Officer. While at Esperion, Mr. Mayleben led the raising of more than $200 million in venture capital and institutional equity funding and later negotiated the acquisition of Esperion by Pfizer in December 2003 for $1.3 billion.

Prior to joining Esperion, Mr. Mayleben held various senior and executive management positions at Transom Technologies, Inc., now part of Electronic Data Systems, Inc., and Applied Intelligent Systems, Inc., which was acquired by Electro-Scientific Industries, Inc. in 1997.

Mr. Mayleben holds an M.B.A. with distinction from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and a B.B.A. degree from the University of Michigan Ross Business School. He is on the Advisory Board for the University of Michigan Wolverine Venture Fund and also serves as a director for several life science companies, both public and private.


Harry Penner
Director
Mr. Penner is Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Nascent BioScience, LLC, a firm engaged in the creation and development of new biotechnology companies founded in September 2001. Mr. Penner is a Founder of New Haven Pharmaceuticals (of which he is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer), Prevention Pharmaceuticals, Affinimark Technologies, Rib-X Pharmaceuticals, RxGen, MAK Scientific, and Celldex Therapeutics. He was President, Chief Executive Officer, and Vice Chairman of Neurogen Corporation from 1993 to 2001. From 1985 to 1993 he was an Executive Vice President of Novo Nordisk A/S, serving from 1988 to 1993 as Executive Vice President for North America and President, Novo Nordisk of North America, and from 1985 to 1988 as the company's Executive Vice President and General Counsel in Denmark. He has served as BioScience Advisor to the Governor and the State of Connecticut, as Co-Chair of Connecticut United for Research Excellence, and as Chair of the Connecticut Board of Governors of Higher Education. He currently serves on the Boards Rib-X, New Haven Pharmaceuticals, Prevention Pharmaceuticals, and Affinimark. Mr. Penner holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia, a J.D. from Fordham University, and an L.L.M. in International Law from New York University.
