Marinus is a new specialty pharmaceutical company dedicated to the development and commercialization of novel drugs to treat serious neurological, psychiatric, and pain disorders.
Marinus is progressing two exciting development stage pharmaceutical programs:
Ganaxolone is being developed by Marinus for the treatment of epilepsy both in adults and children. Ganaxolone was the subject of several positive safety and Phase IIa epilepsy studies in the 1990’s, but this very promising new drug suffered from formulation problems. Marinus has successfully reformulated ganaxolone utilizing proprietary technologies with the goal of returning it swiftly to new confirmatory clinical trials. At Marinus, the drug’s pharmacokinetic deficiencies have been resolved, and its historically high Cost of Goods has been reduced to industry norms. Separate Phase IIb studies of the new liquid formulation's efficacy in treatment of infantile spasms (pediatric) and adult partial complex seizures are expected in early 2007. A new controlled-release ganaxolone capsule is expected in 2007.
Chelerythrine is in pre-clinical development for both the treatment of bipolar disorder and the cognitive deficits of schizophrenia. Extensive primate studies at Yale University support the drug’s likely efficacy in humans. Chelerythrine is a repurposed drug with a positive safety profile derived from its use some years ago as an ingredient in a marketed prescription based toothpaste and dental rinse.
